Hi! Herry Prihamdani is my name. Most people just call me Herry. I work as an illustrator for children's books. And yes, it is a lot of fun!
I was invited to come here and tell you about myself and how I illustrated "From Here and There."
I was born in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, and I have lived there ever since. I’ve always been very interested in illustration, children's books, and visual storytelling. When I was a boy, besides loving cats and pets, I loved to draw and read storybooks. Alhamdulilah, this (along with a lot of hard work) has led me to illustrate children's story books for various publishers and writers from all over the world. I went on to graduate from graphic design while majoring in multimedia design.
My strengths as an artist lie in a professional practice focused on 2D images, and I am proficient in digital painting.
I now continue to pursue my studies at the faculties of law, social science, and political science, majoring in communication science.
I would say my illustrations are heavily influenced by childhood stories, animal life, memories with my family, friendship stories, and fantastic fairy tales.
I was ecstatic when I first read "From Here and There" manuscript. That's because the story about diversity caught my interest.
I brainstormed with the author Larissa to look for reference material for the book "From Here and There" while working on the illustrations. I did a lot of research for the stories in this book, which are fascinating.
I knew I had to depict two distinct cultures and demonstrate how one family is linked to another despite their disparate backgrounds.
Working with the talented writer Larissa Olinda was very enjoyable for me.
